The emphasis of this intensive 5-day workshop is on telling a story within the realm of documentary and travel photography. It is a dynamic and exciting blend of lectures, discussions, and outdoor assignments in which participants tackle the challenges of photographing in the field in a foreign environment. We will discuss ways to approach and photograph people, how to look at light in travel photography and make it work to your advantage, cross-cultural considerations in foreign countries, tips on equipment and digital concerns in different travel and outdoor environments. Each day of the workshop will be divided between shooting, one-on-one instruction and critiquing images shot the previous day. While experiencing environments ranging from rural living to urban living, you will learn how professional photographers unobtrusively move through foreign environments and return with images that are intimate and personal. NOTE: This workshop requires a working photographic knowledge base and skill level. The conditions on this workshop can be difficult due to the nature of the developing world. While accommodations are upscale for Nicaragua, there will still be issues with electricity, water, access to the internet, and Nicaraguan culture continues to run on its own schedule. Highlights
